Kentucky Appalachia Ministry (KAM) is a mission center of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). KAM is teaming up with Cowan Creek Mountain Music School to help children and teens learn to play traditional mountain instruments. Cowan Creek School is located at the foot of Pine Mountain near Whitesburg, Kentucky. This school serves children and families in an area of Kentucky that is very poor. The school has year-round activities, such as music classes, day camps and tutoring, for children whose families cannot afford such activities. KAM is also involved with other organization in the Kentucky Mountains that are using music to help kids discover their heritage and simply have some fun!

Music is a wonderful way to help girls and boys in Appalachia say “YES” to who they are and where they live. Mountain music includes many different kinds of music. Appalachian kids have fun singing mountain folk songs, learning a Cherokee Indian dance, or just listening to other kids play traditional music. These may be things you like to do as well. No matter where you live (Perhaps you too live in the Appalachian Mountains.), you can encourage kids through KAM JAM.

Send musical supplies:

• Guitar, Banjo and Mandolin Strings - $12 per set (approximately)
• Violin Strings - $35 per set (Get help from a music teacher or musician in your church so that you pick really good strings.)
• Guitar and Banjo Straps - $10
• Tuners - $20

Raise money:

• To help KAM purchase whatever supplies they need to keep KAM JAM going. 
• New and good used instruments are what KAM JAM needs the most and they know where to find the best deals. 
• E-mail KAM to find out the prices for new and used instruments. Wouldn’t it be great to know that you provided a banjo that a boy or girl will enjoy for a lifetime!
