Over 150 years ago Brooklawn Child & Family Services began taking care of kids who lost their parents. Way back then Brooklawn was called an orphanage. Today Brooklawn is a safe and loving place for kids to go whose problems are so big that they can no longer live at home. Boys and girls, as young as 6 years old, come to live at Brooklawn. Some of these kids have been abused or neglected. Some come to Brooklawn with very few clothes, toys or school supplies. More than 125 kids currently live at Brooklawn. There are really good doctors, counselors, teachers and volunteers at Brooklawn who are helping these boys and girls. Many adults in United Church of Christ Congregations have been helping the staff of Brooklawn take care of kids for a very long time. Now you can help them too!

Donate welcome basket items.
To make children feel more comfortable when first coming to Brooklawn, the staff and other kids (who are already living at Brooklawn) give them a “Welcome Basket” that is filled with things to make them feel more at home. Imagine how much better they will feel with a special teddy bear to hold or a soft blanket to curl up in at night.
You can fill a “Welcome Basket” by donating the following items:
- A Stuffed Animal (new)
- A Mini (4x6) Photo Album
- A Blanket (maybe you and some adults from your church could make a comfort quilt)
- Hygiene Products like deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, combs, picks, etc.
- Small Snacks
- A Poster
- A Stress Ball
- Coloring Book and Crayons
- Puzzles
